Language Arts Online Lesson 2
Task 1:
Poem
The Son is in Secondary School by Affian Sa’at
My badge has a Latin motto
Hope for the future
The future is hope
Or something
At times black crows try to interrupt
When we sing the National Anthem
It is difficult to maintain
The whiteness of my shoes
Especially on Wednesdays
I must admit there is something quite special
About the bare thighs of hardworking scouts
The Malay chauffeurs
Who wait for my schoolmates
Sit on the car park kerb
Telling jokes to one another
Seven to the power of five is unreasonable
On Chinese New Year
Mrs Lee dressed up
In a sarong kebaya
And sang Bengawan Solo
The capital of Singapore is Singapore
My best friend did a heroic thing once
Shaded all A’s
For his Chinese Language
Multiple-choice paper
In our annual yearbook
There is a photograph of me
Pushing a wheelchair and smiling
They caught me
At the exact moment
When my eyes were actually closed
Analysis:
This poem is basically a free verse, mood and imagery poem with 12 stanzas.
It is a free verse poem because it does not have a regular rhythm or rhyme and sounds like a daily conversation.
It is a mood poem as it creates a feeling when the reader reads it, like when the poem says "When my eyes were actually closed", "Seven to the power of five is unreasonable" and many more. It allows the readers to laugh at what the poet have written as it sounds sarcastic.
It is a imagery poem as the poem at some parts appeal to our senses such as, "At times black crows try to interrupt", "The whiteness of my shoes" and many more. This allows the reader to imagine what the poem is saying using his 5 senses.
Task 2:
Memories of my class by Phoe Chuan Bin
Time is like birds
following the wind
Time is like lightning
zooming past all things
Why can't time stop for a minute?
Looking back at memories
the life of a kid
the life of a
primary school-er
I can remember
our form teacher
Mrs Janet Ng
She was our lamplight
guiding us through the dark
when we were lost
giving us advices
when we did wrong
I still can remember
the heat at the field when we played
the effort we put in at work and
the hardship we went through
But there is something
that still makes me happy
That is
The smile on our faces
the unity of our class
We worked as one
played as one
train as one and
rest as one
We were like
brothers and sisters
Though not blood related
we helped each other
we encouraged each other
in our road to the exam
The final exam
Now we are still together as a class
going on outings
having precious convesations
All of us
doing things together
Brothers and sisters
rest assured
We will be connected forever
since we were once part of
being a SIXJAY-ER
P.s. 6J is my previous class in primary school

Language Arts Online Lesson 1
-Choosing a scene from Lamb to the Slaughter and adapt it for a play. Write the
script for the scene.
SCRIPT
Mary: "Are you tired Darling?"
Patrick: "Yes I am tired."
Patrick: Lift the glass and drink it in one swallow.
Mary: Do not look at Patrick.
Patrick: Lowered his arm, paused a moment, got up and went slowly to get more whisky.
Mary: Look at him,say " I will get it!"
Patrick: Turn around and say, "sit down". Get the whisky and walk back.
Mary: look at the glass and say, "Darling, shall I get your slippers?"
Patrick: "No"
Mary: Watch Patrick as he drink the strong whisky. Say,"I think its a shame that when a policemen gets to be as senior as you, they keep him walking about on his feet all day long."
Patrick: Ignore her and drink the whisky.
Mary: Bent your head and went on sewing. Say,"Darling, would you like to have some cheese? I haven't make any supper because its Thursday."
Patrick:"No"
Mary:"If you are too tired to eat out, its still not to late. There's enough meat and stuff in the freezer and you can have it right here without even moving!"Make an expression as if you are waiting for him to answer. After some time, say,"anyway, I go get some cheese and crackers for you first."
Patrick: I don't want it
Mary: Move uneasyily in your chair watching Patrick's face. Say," But you must have supper. I can do it here. I would like to do it. We can have lamb chops or pork. Anything you want darling."
Patrick: "Forget it"
Mary: Say,"But darling! You must eat! I'll fix it anyway and then you can have it or not, as you like." Make an angry and dissapointed expression while saying. Stand up and place the sewing on the table.
Patrick: Say,"Sit down. Go on, sit down."
Mary: Lower yourself and sit on the chair. Watch Patrick with bewildered eyes.

Similarities & differences between Lamb to the Slaughter and The Way Up To Heaven:
Both stories take place between couples, the female character love their husbands while the male characters show little or no love for them. The female characters didn’t seem to care much about how much their husband loved them. No matter how their husband treats them, they will still love their husband. Both women planned the murder. Both women loved their husband dearly put at the conflict of the story, they changed totally and no longer loved their husband, which is a drastic change in their personality.
In Lamb To The Slaughter, Patrick shows no love for his wife, Mary. In The Way Up To Heaven, Mr Foster tortures his wife by making her late. Normally Mrs Foster is very obsessed on being on time, however her husband always tries to get her to be late intentionally.
Mary kills her husband in one blow, with the lamb leg. Mrs Foster tortures her husband slowly, when her husband is trapped in the lift, she just left him there for six weeks while she was on holiday to die. Mary destroyed the evidence that was used to kill Patrick by feeding it to the policemen, the lamb leg. Mrs Foster did not destroy any evidence as there was no evidence in the first place, her husband suffocated in the lift. In other words Mr Foster died worse than Patrick.
Patrick found a new love and that was the reason of him leaving his wife. Mr Foster just disliked his wife but did not do anything drastic. Patrick was expecting a baby in a few months, whereas Mr Foster’s children were all grown up
Personally i think that Mary Maloney was more "humane" when killing her husband as the husband died immediately on the spot and did not suffer much. For Mrs Foster i think that she made her husband pay for what he did to her.

My first trip out of school,2010 (to SDC)
The world is never fair. How true can this statement be?
I missed a wonderful opportunity to gain precious ACE points yesterday because of a school trip! To gain the 2 points, we were suppose to attend all of the sessions in this program called "ANGLES" but unfortunately, a few classes in my consortium could not. The school had already booked tickets to the Singapore Discovery Centre for us and these tickets could not be refunded. Forgoing the opportunity of the 2 simply attainable ACE points, we set-off on our learning journey!
It was so fun at SDC! When we reached there, we went to the briefing room and learnt about the five defenses and why we does our country need them. After that, it was games time! We had to fill up our game cards to win attractive prices. For answering the questions in the card correcting i won myself a unique hand phone pouch that looks like a fireman uniform! All in all, it was a fun and enriching afternoon despite having to give away the 2 points. =)
